In the late 1940s and early 1950s, Portland OR was a hub for jazz in the Northwest. In 1940 the Lionel Hampton Orchestra came through Portland and performed right in our home venue, Norse Hall. Two short years later, Lionel Hampton and His Orchestra created his first recording of his enduring hit, Flying Home, featuring the iconic tenor sax solo by Illinois Jacquet.
In celebration, appreciation, and extreme nerdiness we are paying homage to Lionel Hampton with our theme night this year — Flying Home!
Headed by bandleader Shane Allen of Eugene OR, Stomp Off Party swings the standards with vibrance & depth, bringing together voices from all corners of the Willamette Valley jazz community (and beyond!). Polyphonic and multigenerational, Stomp Off Party is collaboration at its best, digging into the American Songbook from all directions, delivering riffs and rhythms tuned expressly for dancing. Always lively, always swinging!
This a la carte pass is for the Saturday Night dance party ONLY. It does not include Saturday Late Night or late-night snacks.
